REMINDER: If you help during school hours, you must have volunteer clearance through Vancouver Public Schools. Complete the FREE volunteer application and background check HERE. Clearance is valid for 2 years. If you're unsure whether you are already cleared, please check with the school office.
Back to School Welcome (Fall) - Work with administrative staff to assist students on the first day back to school, especially with bus assignments.
Communications (Ongoing) - Monitors and manages the TJMS PTSA website and social media platform. Manages the school foyer glass case. (COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR is a board position.)
8th Grade (Winter/Spring) - Work with committee and staff to plan end-of-year celebration and class gift to the school for the 8th grade class.
Fundraising (Fall) - Assist with the one major fundraiser in the Fall. Help to distribute packets to classrooms, organize/process orders, and help with lunchtime "spirit events" during the fundraiser timeframe. A large number of volunteers is needed for this event. (FUNDRAISING CHAIR is a board position.)
Honor Roll Breakfast (Winter/Spring) - Work with school in providing reception/breakfast for honor roll students or other events acknowledging accomplishments of students.
Hospitality (Monthly) - Assist on a welcoming committee for our PTSA membership. Help coordinate food and activities for monthly PTSA meetings.
Membership (Monthly) - This committee will work to increase PTSA membership at the school. Volunteering for this committee would include activities such as helping manage a membership table at some of the Back-to-School events in the fall. (MEMBERSHIP CHAIR is a board position.)
Rewards (Monthly) - This committee runs, advertises, and reports on Box Tops for Education, Givebacks, and Fred Meyer Rewards. BTFE payouts in Dec/Apr. Fred Meyer sends quarterly checks. (REWARDS CHAIR is a board position.)
Social/Activity Days (Winter/Spring) - Assist with set up, snacks, and games for events scheduled twice a year. A large group of volunteers are needed for these events.
Spirit Sales (Fall) - Organize the ordering and sales of school logo items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, water bottles. Sales are primarily at Back-to-School night in the Fall. Also oversees online Spirit Store.
Ensures PTSA upholds WSPTA uniform bylaws
Chairs meetings
Serves as an ex officio member of all committees
Makes committee appointments
Acts as spokesperson for the PTSA
Responsible for WSPTA Standards of Affiliation completion
Maintains communication and officer information with WSPTA
Represents PTSA at council meetings
Submits voting delegates for WSPTA convention and legislative assembly
Adapts to the needs of the PTSA
Performs president's duties when needed
Participates in meetings with the principal
Takes on additional tasks as assigned
Keeps accurate minutes of all meetings
Manages correspondence
Maintains committee rosters and legal notebook
Tracks unfinished business for the agenda
Orders Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator awards
Ensures meeting minutes are approved
Records who made motions in meeting minutes and their results
Presents monthly financial reports
Helps develop policy for money handling, online banking, and financial security
Keeps accurate financial records
Receives, issues receipts, and deposits funds promptly
Distributes approved funds according to the budget
Prepares books for all financial reviews
Maintains the legal notebook (or collaborates with the Secretary)
